Know this is an old post but directly from the TM it states that the cork gasket or silicone RTV is appropriate. On my home computer right now and will post the exact TM exerpt on Monday.

Nah, our gasket was good, the problem was, people kept telling me to go in through the side inside the cab, by engine cover inside the cab. However, I said screw it and just took the fuel lines off and moved them out of the way and came in straight from the top. Coming in from the side was causing it to lay uneven and though I was told to put silicone on it didn't matter, just putting it on from the above worked. Was a pain to put the fuel lines back but eh, at least it got fixed.
