I have an M1165 that starts and runs fine, when running for awhile and then shut off the vehicle will not start back up. You have to wait a substancial amount of time until it will start back up again... does my injection pump need replacing?
I have had a few trucks with those exact symptoms and it was the injection pump. Replace that bad boy.
I think the solenoid on top of the pump is malfunctioning. Like i said i have had some trucks do that and when the truck is shut off and the pump is hot/warm the truck will not start. Once the truck/Engine/pump cools off it will start and run fine. During my first deployment to OIF we were having to cool the pumps with water sometimes to get the trucks to start again. I am not sure exactly what the heat does to cause the pump not to work. Another cause may be the JP8. The trucks were designed to run on diesel. Diesel has lubrication in it which lubes the moving parts inside the pump. JP8 is a cleaner fuel without much lubrication and may cause the pumps to quite working properly. The 624k TRAM actually has a filter on it that adds lubricant to the fuel when using JP8 to avoid having the same issues. I am not telling you to do this with your trucks but more for general info. A little bit of dextron can be added to JP8 to give it some lubrication if ever needed.
