Postby jonsey05 » 07 Sep 2011, 06:05

I have been reading MCO P4400.150E and its hard to interprite what i should add to my special tools. If its on the CMR do i still have to get it on the Special tool allowence? I have 2 little shop air compressors not on either. Can i go crazy and just put everything on Special tools would it hurt? i guess im just looking for it spelled out and i cant find it. thanks for the help

We have some of the same stuff in our shop and i put them on the special tools list. If items are on your CMR you do not have to put them on the special tools list. We recently had FSMAO and did well so i am betting your safe putting it on the special tools list. FSMAO question below:

1. Are special tool allowances established for garrison peculiar tools, and are these tools properly authorized and accounted for?. (MCO P4400.150E, para 2012; and MCO P4790.2C, Appendix D, para 3.c. (3)) (FMF Units only)(Weight: 1)

One thing that i ran into with the inspector was the GARRISON PECULIAR part of the question.... I had some tools on my special tools allowance that were available to us in the Wrecker or the Common 22 but are not part of the Common 10. He told me that since i had them availalbe in those two kits that i really should not have it in my special tools allowance.. My argument was that the common 22 and wrecker both leave and go on contact runs or tlhe the field or what not so he saw my point and allowed it. Hope this helps.

one more thing that i bet you are aware of but i want to make sure.........after you compile your list you need to create an inventory for that list. Ensure that it is inventoried monthly, quarterly, or whatever your unit calls for.

Edited by Petz: The longest interval you can inventory a tool set/kit that isn't administratively stored is 6 months.

take a look at the new common 10 and 12 tool kits (assuming you have them) One of those two has an air compressor in it that is As Required.

Special Tools are a special subject. These tools are not something you buy with unit funds or sometimes held on any CMR or SL-3 extract. Special Tools are tools that are created by TI's like the for the Old HMMWV B-kit the pully plate adjustment tool. Garrision Peciular tools are thoese that are not found on an SL-3 List that you find makes your life eaiser in the Motor Pool IE Battery Powered Impact Guns. As required tools also need letters of authorization from your commander and are listed in an SL-3. Then there is Additional Authorized which increases the number of an item you are allowed to hold for an SL-3.

UURI that have a quantity can have commanders authorization decreasing the ammount the unit is required to purchase as well.
