Mechanical Fuel Pump (Push Rod)

Postby thatmech1992 » 22 Mar 2016, 09:20

Question, Ive been looking at the TM for a 1123 and when Im trying to install the push rod it feels like the lobe is blocking the way. Ive manually cranked the engine with no hope of moving the lobe. Any suggestions to what might be broke? Thanks in advance.

do you have the oil pan down? then you can see if there is anything blocking the hole (possibly a leftover piece of the old push rod.

I agree with SUPERMOD, most likely a piece of the old rod is stuck up in there. They are made of hardened steel and break pretty cleanly sometimes. Look up in there with a flashlight or feel the old rod, if it's rough on one end the other part is up there. Now here's the trick for removing it if it's up there. IF you have a common 22 get the suction pump that comes with it. Shove it in there and have someone yank the handle quick on the pump. Will suck it right out.

*Old Post

The rod can break off and get stuck on an angle between the block and the lobe and cause all sorts of chaos. Sometimes dropping the pan is the only safe bet if you don't have a complete push rod pulled out.
